KASHMIR FAUNAL INVENTORY PROGRAMME
Biodiversity
Inventory are presently held unevenly across Kashmir in different,
often incompatible formats. Information based on these data's is
required by the decision makers and other users for different
purpose, such as protected area management, environmental
assessment, land use planning and development, awareness raising,
education, research and prioritization of conservation actions.
Although many
institutions collect data useful for biodiversity conservation ,
they are rarely made accessible in reasonable time or in the formats
which the users require , particularly if the data transcend
institutional holdings. This is because such data are normally
collected for internal use by the institutions concerned, and there
is little awareness of the need to build up essential data assets
for wider use.
In order to
address the above gap and to provide scientific and management
information for biodiversity conservation in Kashmir. A key activity
taken up by Environment Services and Research Organization in the
pursuit of its objectives is the preparation of biodiversity
profiles of the state of Jammu & Kashmir.
The approach is
to put together available information on various aspects of
biodiversity in publications , reports , research papers , etc. for
ease of reference and to promote the use of this information by
policy makers, conservationists, concerned individuals and
organization in their respective context.

objectives are to build up a repository and dissemination Centre in
Environment Science; To gear up the modern technologies of
information acquisition, processing, storage, retrieval and
dissemination of environmental information; To support and promote

technology.

objective are to provide International environmental information
service relevant to present needs and capable of development to meet
